Traditional Takoyaki

Endo Tomekichi is credited with the invention of takoyaki. He was a street vendor in Osaka, who sold a similar item called choboyaki from a cart. Octopus were plentiful in the Seto Inland Sea, and in 1935 Endo tried putting it in his choboyaki and seasoned the batter. His new snack became the mascot of it's home city.

Today you can find many variations of takoyaki throughout Japan. Chef/ Owner and Tokyo native Ryo Igarashi brings this ultimate comfort food snack to American audiences with MARU GLOBAL Takoyaki. Chef Igarashi uses all the flavors he has come to love here in the West as well as traditional to share with Philadelphia the snack treat the Japanese have been enjoying for more than a century.
